The Columban College Library held its 2nd Mini Book Fair on August 15–16, 2025, bringing together publishers, bookstores, and students in an event that emphasized the role of books as gateways to knowledge and imagination.
Dr. David C. Bueno, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Student Services (VPAASS), opened the fair by underscoring the significance of books in human experience.
"Books are an expression of significant experiences to reflect universal themes. Every page invites everyone,” he said.
"Books are more than just ink and paper, they are the key to unlocking new adventures.”
Organized by the Library and Information Management Committee (LIMC), the fair showcased a curated selection of titles ranging from academic references to general reading materials.
According to organizers, the initiative sought to encourage students to read and to highlight the enduring relevance of print in a digital age.
Exhibitors included Big Faith Trading, Readers Knowledge Bookstore, Books Atbp. Publishing, Forefront Book Co. Inc., ESM Bookstore, Wiseman’s Books Trading Inc., Mind Mover Publishing House Inc., C&E Adaptive Learning Solutions, J&M Magazine, Subscription International, and World Book.
Each stall presented titles tailored to different academic levels and student interests.
Arlene Garcia, Phoenix Educational School and Library Coordinator, explained the mission behind their participation.
"Ang goal namin is para matulungan namin yung mga schools na maghanap ng needs nila na book, grade level or up to senior high kasi wala kaming college books,” she said.
Meanwhile, Alex Macapagal from Mind Mover Publishing House Inc. pointed out the importance of sustaining traditional reading practices despite technological shifts.
“Very important yung pagpopromote, para maging aware sila na yung traditional books is visible pa rin sa market. Pinopromote din natin yung traditional way of teaching saka yung relevance ng book,” he said.
Students welcomed the event and expressed their enthusiasm.
A group of 3rd Year BSEd English majors noted that they were particularly interested in linguistics and literature selections that complemented their academic program.
